Choice

The Lion was restless. News from every part of the jungle was about to arise. Results of elections due and he could not control the anxiety. Walking about from the depth of the cave to tree just outside, he was being observed since long by the Fox.
The clever advisor of the Lion spoke in a small voice, “I don’t know the reason your majesty is so worried. The Elephant can not, will not be able to stand up to us.” The Lion replied, “Yeah. Yeah, I know that, but then…” Fox, encouraged, said, “But your majesty, Elephant can not compare the dignity, elegance and the impression your majesty have amongst the subjects.”

A smile more cunning then it was wide spread over the Lion’s face. “Yeah, I know the credit goes to you. It’s you who covered up for the all the nasty incidences and mapped my undignified and inelegant acts to those of supreme dignity and elegance. You’ll be rewarded Fox, rewarded beyond your imagination.” Fox smiled too. Lion sighed, “I see your point Fox. After all, its democracy, good people don’t rule.”

An hour later, a Wolf Van had arrived at the Cave. Lion was being fetched by the Inspector Wolf to the prison. Lion roared at Fox. “You double crossing filthy creature. What do you think, my times are over?? Think, think of your rewards when I’ll be back.” Fox said, “Dear ex-Minister, I knew the rewards I was about to get as the unwilling carrier of your dirtiest secrets. A missing Minister Advisor and a temporary selected new one would have been just too convenient. I’ve made my choice. All I needed was to survive till elections.”

Elephant entered. Fox started in a delighted tone, “Heartily congratulations to you for your victory your maj.. ” “Oh please don’t Fox”, replied the brand new elected Minister. “Call me, Elephant. It is time for the good people to take over, with a sense of serving the subjects, not ruling them.” Elephant looked at Lion, who stared back, then moved on to the Wolf Van.
